Yes Man by Danny Wallace: Book Review

"Danny Wallace had been staying in. Far too much. Having been dumped by his girlfriend, he really wasn't doing the young, free and single thing very well. Instead he was avoiding people. Texting them instead of calling them. Calling them instead of meeting them. That is until one fateful date when a mystery man on a late-night bus told him to 'say yes more'. These three simple words changed Danny's life forever. Yes Man is the story of what happened when Danny decided to say YES to everything, in order to make his life more interesting. And boy, did it get more interesting."

I picked this up last month in Oxfam on the same day I bought quite a few other books (post here) and I'd wanted to read it for ages. Danny Wallace is one of those authors who's book I thought I'd enjoy but have never gotten around to reading. This book made a great change from some of the wishy washy rubbish I end up being drawn to initially and at the moment I'm less interested in.

I really enjoyed this book, the writer's sense of humour cracked me up all the way through; it's that sort of British sarcasm and awkwardness. The book is autobiographical but it's written so well, you'd think it was made up! It did also get me thinking about how saying no too much can make an impact on your life and how you do have to take some chances and say yes to experience some great things - very deep I know.

Yes Man by Danny Wallace - Amazon - £5.59 (or used from £2.77 P+P included)

You might have heard of the film based on this book, also called Yes Man starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel, but I watched the film after reading the book and it is just inspired by the idea of a man whose been dumped and life is becoming boring so he decides to say yes to everything. Bradley Cooper is the main character's best friend in the film too - yum yum.

After finishing this book I managed to find 'Friends Like These' also by Danny Wallace in a charity shop, which is about him seeing what has happened to his best friends from school - so far I'm impressed.
