From Notting Hill With Love Actually: Book Review

"She was just a girl, standing in front of a boy . . . wishing he looked more like Hugh Grant. Scarlett loves the movies. But does she love sensible fiancé David just as much? With a big white wedding on the horizon, Scarlett really should have decided by now . . . When she has the chance to house-sit in Notting Hill - the setting of one of her favourite movies - Scarlett jumps at the chance. But living life like a movie is trickier than it seems, especially when her new neighbour Sean is so irritating. And so irritatingly handsome, too. Scarlett soon finds herself starring in a romantic comedy of her very own: but who will end up as the leading man?"

I got this from my local library recently and decided to take it away on holiday with me to read after or between the 2nd and 3rd Hunger Games books. I thought it would be a nice, easy read as I do love a good bit of 'chick lit'.

I started this straight after Mockingjay and after the first few chapters had to stop because it was just too wishy washy. I thought I'd really enjoy the story as it involves references to the films I love like Notting Hill and Bridget Jones but it was too silly and really disappointing.

I persevered past the first few chapters as the book was so slow to get going and it didn't get any better. To finish it I ended up skipping chapters and even the ending was embarrassing. I didn't connect with the characters and all the situations were unbelievable and over-dramatic. The initial idea was enticing but didn't deliver any kind of entertainment value..

Maybe I'm getting too old and bitter for these kind of wishy washy chick lit books but this one just seemed too cliche and predictable so I'm glad I loaned it from the library instead of buying it. Reading and reviewing this book has inspired me to write some reviews for decent and enjoyable books in this genre and others - so hopefully some positive reviews will be coming soon.
