FOTD (Face of the Day): Birthday

Although it has so far been mentioned on every post on this blog so far, I'm not really one for a big fuss on my birthday. As I'd made plans to see my friends to celebrate on other days, on my actual birthday my parents took me for lunch at my favourite restaurant Nando's and after we were stuffed we went for a small mooch around the shops at the Gateshead Metro Centre and I may have bought a little something pretty with my birthday money - pictures to come...

Products Used
Face:
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum 51 mixed with Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect in 73
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand (under eye and blemishes)
NYX Concealer Pot in Orange (under eye corrector)
Sleek Face Contour Kit in Light (contour and highlight)
Mac Cremeblend Blush in Something Special
ELF Studio Blush in Peachy Keen
Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Accessorise Lovely Day Palette
Sleek Oh So Special palette (matte browns for eyebrows)
MUA Mascara in Clear (brow set)
Maybelline Gel Eyeliner in Brown
Maybelline Collosal Cat Eye Effect Mascara
No 7 Metallic Eye Pencil in Green (waterline)
Lips:
17 Supreme Shine Lipstick in Hot Flash

I decided to go for a sheer gold tones on the eyes with a teal eyeliner to give a pop of colour.

For the eyes I used the Accesorise Lovely Day palette which I'm hoping to review soon. It has a large amount of shades, most of them neutral metallic, which blend together well.

For this look I used the metallic brown (bottom row, 2nd from the right) all over the lid and used a very red/brown toned gold brown (top row, 2nd from the right and 2nd row, 1st from the right) in the crease. These shadows do need the colour building up as they go on a bit sheerer but this actually helps make them more wearable for everyday. Too much of a pigmented red toned colour would be a bit of a more extreme look on my eyes.

The lip colour I used was a favourite from my recent holiday, 17 Supreme Shine in Hot Flash. Going to do a short review on this soon as it is a lovely colour.

ASOS Sale Haul: Pre-Birthday Bargains

I can never resist a little look at the ASOS sale and even though they're known for their clothing items, I always end up finding more bargains in the beauty sale.

I always have to be cautious when shopping in sales as the idea that something has some money off makes it so appealing, and the definition of a true bargain is something you would of bought full price which I was actually considering doing with these items. I also thought I'd pick up some bits before my birthday as a little present for myself and luckily they arrived on my birthday (unfortunately the courier came a-knocking at 8.30am! boo!).

Firstly I've noticed lately that my tweezers aren't as good as these used to be and seeing as they were cheap ones I've had for ages, it was the perfect opportunity to invest in Tweezerman ones that I'd be pining for. Just a few days before I'd nearly bought similar ones on Beauty Bay, as they had a small discount, but problems with their site stopped me getting through the checkout at the time.

Luckily the gorgeous 'Cheetah Print Slant Tweezers' were reduced from £22.00 to £15.00. I got the colour Pink but they also come in 'Blue Jewel' and 'Orange Coral'. I've heard so many good things about this brand of tweezers so I couldn't resist. Also it's so true that some people will buy something or pay more if it comes in a form of animal print!

"Animal print slant tweezers by Tweezerman. Featuring an award winning design, the slant tweezer is perfectly aligned
with hand-filed, stainless steel, precision tips, grabbing every hair and finished with a vibrant animal print."

Next I was deciding whether to get a O.P.I mini designer polish set from the sale for my friend's birthday in a few months but once I had decided they were out of stock. Serious sad face! I seem to have bad luck when it comes to the O.P.I mini sets, I always want them after they've been discontinued or miss certain ones when they're on BuyaPowa - obviously not meant to be.

Then I spotted that some shades of the Nicole by OPI: Kardashian Kolor collection were reduced from £9.00 to £6.00. I was finally tempted by the gorgeous sparkly sensation that is 'Something Spar-Kylie' inspired by Kylie Jenner - a mid pink glitter polish with particles of silver glitter and a sheer pink base.

All of the polishes were designed by the Kardashian/Jenner clan (or machine) and each reference a Kardashian phrase e.g. 'Disco Dolls' or a Kardashian/Jenner family member 'Kim-pletely in Love'
Find out more about the collection here

"The Kardashian Kolor collection from Nicole by O.P.I. Featuring a collection of shades created by O.P.I and the Kardashian sisters, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie, the fun colours range from a classic scarlet red to shimmering glitters and the perfect pale pink. The hard wearing nail polishes give a gloss finish and are chip resistant."

In the UK we unfortunately don't typically get the Nicole by O.P.I range and my friend is a massive fan of the Kardashian Klan, as am I, so I picked us both up this shade. We're always spending loads of time and money in the beauty departments of Boots, Superdrug, Debenhams, Fenwicks etc. so it's nice to be able to get her something a bit special.

I haven't worn this shade on my nails yet but when my current polish needs changing I'll be swapping it for this. When I swatched it on a nail wheel, the colour and formula was impressive.

I was also very impressed (as always) by how quick the delivery is from ASOS, especially as I always choose the free delivery option. The items came by a private courier who when I wasn't down quick enough to get my parcel, left it in my recycling bin - #winning.

Just be careful at the checkout on their website as it will default back to Next Day delivery for £3.50! Sneaky sneaky.

NOTD (Nail of the Day): Model's Own Utopia and Pink Fizz

Today is my 20th birthday and yesterday I had to work an 8 hour shift at work (disrupted in the middle by the crazy tropical storm and floods that have hit the North East of England so spent the last half of my shift soaking wet and mopping the floors). Anyway, I find that nice nail polish really brightens my day if I have a long shift at work or dreaded exams so I made sure to make my nails extra jazzy to get an early start on my birthday weekend.

I bought these polishes together and they just go so well, they are both easily one of my favourites together or alone. I've worn this combination a lot and it's just so pretty and also gets lots of people admiring your nails. Pink Fizz is also a very birthday appropriate name!

As I can find glitter a pain to remove, and sometimes you don't want loads of glitter on your nails, I sometimes wear this combination on my ring finger and Utopia alone on the others (my Mother doesn't understand the one finger glitter trend, she finds it odd!).

For this look I applied 1 coat of Utopia (as it was late and I needed sleep) and then layered two coats of Pink Fizz for a full glitter effect. I would usually do 2 coats of the base colour as pastels like this one can streak and show through unevenly under the glitter but I knew I was going to pack on the glitter and just wanted a coloured base to help it become opaque quicker. Pink Fizz does have a sheer base in a similar colour to the glitter so after 2-4 coats (depending how thick you paint or opaque you want) it should be opaque.

Due to the great Model's Own formula, this combination didn't chip during the time I was at work and also withstood all the days rain and consequential furniture moving and mopping.

Utopia is a pale, pastel purple with a cream finish.

Pink Fizz is a rose/silver metallic glitter with a sheer, pale rose coloured base.

The Model's Own formula is one of the best I've tried especially for the price, and the quality is consistent throughout their standard nail polish range. I find Model's Own polishes to apply, dry and wear well.

Both nail polishes are £5 each and can be purchased online from the Models Own Website (they have discounts when buying 3 or 5 polishes at a time) or instore and online from Boots (where they current have buy one get one half price on selected models own - only £7.50 for two!).

Welcome Fellow Addicts

Hi and welcome to my blog: Georgia's Make-Up Addiction. As you can probably guess from the title I'm Georgia and this blog will display and document my make up addiction as well as my other addictions like fashion, nail polish, music, film, TV etc.

I recently turned 20 years old (29th June) and have finally decided to start a blog as I obviously love beauty but I also love writing and reading about it. I love to buy and try products so I'd love to be able to share my thoughts with others.

I'm currently studying for a degree in Advertising and Media and will be starting my third and final year in September (scary stuff) so I also thought this blog would be a great way to practice my writing and might help in the future when I'm looking for intern-ships and jobs, as they are notoriously hard to get in this area of work.

Obviously I would love it at some point if readers really loved and enjoyed reading my blog but at the moment, especially, I'm not expecting too much. I plan on blogging about things I love and really enjoying doing it, especially as I have a long summer break from university.

Small disclaimer: I'm not a highly skilled photographer and at the moment I'm using a quite average digital camera which has seen better days. I'm experimenting with the limited settings to work out the best light and macro settings so if photos are slightly blurry or badly lit - I'm sorry.
